What’s being dubbed “SignalGate” is a scandal involving National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, his deputy Alex Wong, and a web of troubling connections that raise serious questions about loyalty, integrity, and the infiltration of the deep state into President Trump’s inner circle. Joining me to unpack this fast-moving story are Leo Holman and David Pine, two voices who’ve been skeptical of Waltz from the get-go. The story broke wide open today, with investigative journalist Paul Sperry and activist Laura Loomer leading the charge on X. At the center of SignalGate is an alleged leak of sensitive information—possibly classified—by Mike Waltz, Trump’s hand-picked National Security Advisor. According to reports, Waltz “accidentally” shared details about military operations, including “time over target” data, via a chat session that included Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. Waltz has claimed he didn’t know Goldberg was in the chat and has denied any close relationship with him. But a photo surfaced today showing Waltz standing next to Goldberg at an event, directly contradicting his story.

David Pine, speaking on my broadcast tonight, didn’t mince words: “I think he’s lying. He’s been dishonest from the start.” Leo Holman echoed that sentiment, suggesting that if an honest investigation—perhaps led by someone like Elon Musk—were to dig into this, “we’ll find out good and well that Mr. Waltz had a relationship with Mr. Goldberg.” The implications are staggering: if Waltz, a former congressman and Green Beret, has been leaking to a publication owned by billionaire Democrat donor Laurene Powell Jobs (Steve Jobs’ widow and a close ally of Kamala Harris), what does that say about his allegiance to Trump’s America First agenda?

Sperry’s reporting adds fuel to the fire. He cites a U.S. intelligence official who claims Waltz was a source for Goldberg while serving on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. “There’s no need for an investigation to figure out how he was added to the chat,” the official told Sperry. “Goldberg was in his address book because he’s been talking to him.” If true, this isn’t just a one-off mistake—it’s a pattern of behavior that could undermine Trump’s national security team.

Who Is Mike Waltz?

Let’s step back and look at Waltz himself. A former aide to Dick Cheney—who, let’s not forget, endorsed Kamala Harris in 2024—Waltz has a long history as a neocon hawk. FEC records uncovered by Sperry show he donated $8,150 to Never Trumpers like Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Jeb Bush, while giving zero dollars to Trump. David Pine pointed out Waltz’s lockstep support for Biden’s Ukraine policy: “He’s been part of the anti-Russia chorus, marching with the Biden regime in saying the U.S. had to send massive arms shipments to Ukraine… a senseless and unwinnable war against the Russian Federation.”

Leo Holman doubled down: “There was not a single Ukraine aid package that Mike Waltz was not eager to approve… Over $300 billion of American taxpayer dollars has been wasted on that phony, fraudulent democracy.” Both Pine and Holman warned about Waltz months ago—Pine in a November 13, 2024, Substack piece titled “Return of the Neocons,” and Holman in a December 31, 2024, article on LeoHolman.com titled “Donald Trump: Man of Peace or Man of War?” Their prescient concerns are now front and center.

The Alex Wong Connection: CCP Ties?

The plot thickens with Alex Wong, Waltz’s deputy, hand-picked by the National Security Advisor himself. Laura Loomer dropped a bombshell on X today, alleging that Wong’s father-in-law, Dr. Ya Hu Chi, had direct ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) through a 23-year career with AsiaSat, a satellite company partially owned by Chinese state entities like CITIC Limited. Loomer claims to have the receipts—screenshots and records—backing this up. If verified, this raises alarming questions about Wong’s vetting and his proximity to classified information.

Wong’s own resume doesn’t inspire confidence. A former staffer for neocon senators Mitt Romney and Tom Cotton, Wong also has family roots in Guangdong, China. His wife, Candace Chi Wong, served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in D.C. from 2015 to 2024, including under the Biden administration, and clerked for Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Brett Kavanaugh. As Leo Holman put it, “It is so incestuous… This is the type of person we have working on the staff of the sitting National Security Advisor to President Trump.”

David Pine added, “Any potential ties to the CCP, family or otherwise… it goes back to Waltz. He has to take responsibility for that as well.” Loomer’s pointed question—why didn’t China hawk Tom Cotton vet Wong?—hangs in the air, unanswered.

A Deep State Trap?

This isn’t just about one or two bad actors. As General Flynn tweeted last week, “There have been many traps set for President Trump by the deep state.” Leo Holman drew a chilling parallel: “In many ways, Mike Waltz is the reincarnation of Mike Pence… a deep state plant.” Pence, Holman argued, played the loyal soldier in public while leaking to outlets like The New York Times to sabotage Trump’s first term. Is Waltz following the same playbook?

David Pine raised the stakes: “If he has a reputation now that’s been exposed as a leaker from the House Intelligence Committee, what was he leaking to Goldberg? And what would he be willing to leak now from the Trump administration?” With Trump’s signature foreign policy goal—splitting the Russia-China alliance—on the line, the presence of Waltz and Wong could be catastrophic.

Can Waltz Survive?
